Crystal Palace aim to start stadium works at end of season
You recently asked us why the stadium redevelopment plan was so quiet at Crystal Palace. An update came earlier this week...
Crystal Palace could begin building works on the main stand development at the end of the season.
After a summer of preliminary works, the club have said the development is "progressing well" and is now in its final planning phase.
This phase includes negotiations with contractors with their intention to begin building works once the 2024-25 campaign is complete.
The club confirmed final legal agreements with Croydon Council for the redevelopment of the Main Stand have been signed, with initial enabling works beginning towards the construction.
The redevelopment project will overhaul Selhurst Park, increasing the capacity from 26,000 to over 34,000 while providing year-round community facilities.
In the previous update in July, Crystal Palace said the aim is for the new stand to be built around the existing structure, with the hope of keeping the stadium fully operational throughout the build process.
In the latest update released on 17 December, the club also confirmed they had identified some minor adjustments to the original stadium design plans that they are looking to obtain permission for.
These include an updated seating layout to meet new safety guidance, changes to the parking plans to reduce disruption to local residents and improvements to the proposed 'Fanzone'.
