Cronulla Sharks rally around Jesse Ramien and partner amid devastating news about baby boy
Ramien's partner had to undergo an emegency C-section on their holiday in Bali.
The NRL community and friends are rallying around Jesse Ramien and his family after the Cronulla star's partner was forced to undergo an emergency caesarean birth in Bali, leaving their new-born son fighting to breathe. Baby Teo, born at just 33 weeks to mum Shell, had to be resuscitated for five minutes until he was able to breathe before being placed in NICU (Newborn Intensive Care Unit).
Teammate Royce Hunt's wife Shavaun has set up a GoFundMe page to help meet the rising costs of medical care and ongoing accommodation as the couple stay by their baby's side. Despite taking out top-level travel insurance, the Ramien family is facing a bill of more than $130,000 to return to Australia on an emergency flight, with Teo requiring assistance to breathe.
More than $20,000 has already been raised with NRL stars Nicho Hynes, Braden Hamlin-Uele, Hame Sele, Connor Tracey and Sitili Tupouniua among those to donate. Shavaun wrote: "Our beautiful friends Jesse and Shell took off on their family holiday to Bali with their one year old Son, Tallen.

"Shell was also 33 weeks pregnant, she made sure she had a clearance from her Obstetrician, a clearance from the airline and ensured she had the top cover, including pregnancy in her travel insurance. After just 3 days of being in Bali, Shell went into early labour and despite the doctors and nurses' best efforts at Siloam hospital Denpasar to stop the contractions, Shell ended up having to go in for an emergency C-section.
"Unfortunately she had to be put under anaesthesia, so she woke up without her baby in her arms, not knowing his fate. The hospital resuscitated Teo for 5 minutes until he started breathing where he was then rushed to NICU. Shell and Jesse weren't able to meet their baby until 9am the following morning.
"The insurance doesn't cover Teo’s medical costs and the bill is already exceeding $20,000. Shell is recovering from her emergency C-section and has been discharged from the hospital, although paying to stay with her baby boy.
"They are finding it hard to communicate with the doctors and nurses and need to be back home with their baby boy in our medical system but, because Teo is not yet breathing on his own, that would require an emergency medical flight which will be upwards of $130,000." Shell's wonderful Mum flew over to help with their 1 year old boy, Tallen and now has flown back to Australia with Tallen which is of course helpful but heartbreaking for Shell and Jesse to be away from him.

"They know they need to focus on Teo and getting him home as quick as they can. They appreciate everything and anything to help get their baby home!"
A Cronulla official told Yahoo Sport Australia that Ramien and his family are being offered the club's full support and assistance. In addition, Sharks players and members of the coaching and footy staff - still in Bali following Briton Nikora's wedding - are also assisting on the ground.
