Bail defies physics in crazy post-wicket anomaly

A local match in Queensland has witnessed one of the rarest occurrences you're ever likely to see on a cricket field.

Freelance videographer Brendan West captured the incredible moment a bail seemingly defied the laws of physics after a batsman was clean bowled.

RIDICULOUS: NSW fume over 'dangerous pitch' fiasco

As you can see in the video above, the bowler from Caloundra Cricket Club manages to get the ball to clip the batsman's leg stump, sending the left-hand bail trickling to the ground.

However the right-hand bail inexplicably jumps out of its groove and nestles perfectly on top of the middle stump, remaining there without falling.

The players and umpires were absolutely gobsmacked by the bizarre anomaly, one that they'll probably never see again for the rest of their lives.

It's not the first time we've seen some strange occurrences involving a set of bails.

Earlier this year an image went viral on social media after the bails remained in place despite middle stump being knocked out of the ground in a local game in Victoria.

"We had no idea what the actual ruling on it was, but we all admired it for a few minutes," Mooney Valley captain Michael Ozbun said.

"You probably couldn't do that again if you tried.

"We weren't sure if maybe (the stumps) were put it at a slight angle so there was just a little bit of pressure.

"When they were sitting on the stumps, they were in the grooves. It wasn't like the middle of the bails were above the stumps or anything.

"The ball had to have hit at the exact right point that the stump didn't fly up, it went down."
