Mitch Marsh requires full shoulder reconstruction: report

Mitch Marsh is already on the back foot in his bid to make next summer's Ashes squad, with a report stating he needs a full shoulder reconstruction.

Australian allrounder Marsh was sent home from India after the second Test when it was determined he could no longer guide his damaged shoulder through the series.

The West Australian reports the initial diagnosis requires surgery, which would keep him out of action for almost nine months.

Marsh will see a specialist in Melbourne this week to confirm the path.

The 25-year-old would need to speed through his recovery and prove his fitness in the Sheffield Shield to be in contention for the first Ashes Test on November 23

The more likely scenario is that he is careful with his rehabilitation and plays a full season of Shield cricket for Western Australia.

Marsh, who was dumped after the first Test of Australia's home summer before returning to the team for the tour of India, was replaced in India by Marcus Stoinis.

Marsh averaged just 12 with the bat and bowled only five overs across the two Tests.

It was revealed last week that his 19.71 average batting at No.6 is the worst of all No.6 batsmen to play at least 20 Test matches in the position.
