Cartwright cops ball to groin as youngsters in the wars

Australian debutant Hilton Cartwright performed well with the bat in his debut Test but it might now be a match to forget.

Fielding just metres away from Pakistan batsman Younis Khan, Cartwright was felled by a ball that was hit into the ground in front of him.

Channel Nine's reaction graphic showed it took just 0.132 of a second for the ball to reach Cartwright's privates.

The 24-year-old was immediately surrounded by supportive teammates, perhaps only so they could sneak in a laugh or two.

Cartwright wasn't the only Australian in the wars on day three.

Wicketkeeper Matthew Wade was forced off the field due to a stomach bug, handing the gloves - hopefully not his own - to Peter Handscomb.

SCORECARD: Australia v Pakistan, third Test

Matt Renshaw was fielding at short leg in the 77th over when Sarfraz Ahmed swept the ball in his direction.

The opener ducked, only for the Kookaburra to hit the top of his helmet.

"Matthew complained of a headache. He came off the ground to rest and is having an ongoing assessment of his condition," Australian team doctor Peter Brukner said.

Renshaw needed a new lid on day one in Sydney when a nasty bouncer from Mohammad Amir struck his grill.

Brunker gave Renshaw the all-clear to continue batting on that occasion, with the burly Queenslander going on to score his maiden Test ton in Australia's first-innings total of 8(dec)-538.

"We asked him questions to see if he was alert and orientated," Brukner said at the time.

"Unless we suspect he has concussion, he doesn't need to come off and our initial assessment was that he didn't."
