Bairstow suffers comical injury walking out to bat

England batsman Jonny Bairstow has suffered one of the most embarrassing injuries in Test cricket history, hurting himself before he'd even faced a ball.

Bairstow was walking out to bat to begin day three of the second Test against India when he came undone.

Stepping over the boundary rope and onto the playing surface, England's No.7 batsman tried to get his footwork going by doing some side-to-side skipping, a standard warm-up exercise for any cricketer.

But Bairstow stumbled as he took his first step, rolling his ankle and hobbling towards the middle.

The 27-year-old was in so much pain he was forced to turn back towards the pavilion to receive some painkillers before resuming.

The embarrassing blow didn't seem to affect him out in the middle however, scoring 53 as England were bowled out for 255, 200 runs behind their hosts' first innings total.
