Glenn Maxwell in welcome update amid Melbourne Stars' woeful start to BBL campaign

The news comes at the best possible time for the all-rounder's struggling club.

Glenn Maxwell's agent has revealed the superstar all-rounder will only miss one BBL match and be back in action for the Melbourne Stars' next game against the Sydney Thunder. Maxwell was ruled out of the Stars' last match against the Perth Scorchers after picking up a forearm strain against the Brisbane Heat.

Maxwell’s agent Ben Tippett revealed on SEN radio on Friday that his client suffered a grade two strain and would normally be out for around two weeks. But because the Stars don't play again until December 23, the explosive all-rounder will only miss one game.

“He's going really well,” Tippett said. “There was a grade two strain, so I guess he’s really lucky with the BBL break for this Test match that he only misses one game. It’s a couple of week injury (recovery), but it means he only misses one, which is excellent news for everyone.”

The BBL is in the midst of a six-day break due to the first Test between Australia and Pakistan in Perth. It comes at the perfect time for Maxwell after he suffered yet another injury setback.

His return will also be extremely timely for the Stars, who have suffered back-to-back thrashings to begin the BBL season. They were walloped by 103 runs against the Heat, before going down to the Scorchers by seven wickets with 37 balls remaining.

Fans will also be happy to hear the update after Maxwell suffered another injury amid a torrid few months. He famously broke his leg in a freak accident at a friend's birthday party late last year, and missed a recent white-ball tour of South Africa after re-injuring his ankle at training. He was ruled out of Australia's game against England at the World Cup after falling off a golf cart on a day off and suffering a concussion.

Glenn Maxwell hot property after heroics at Cricket World Cup

Thankfully he played the majority of the World Cup in India, and produced a number of memorable moments as his side won the trophy. He made the highest score by an Australian men's player in ODI history when he blasted 201 not out off 128 balls against Afghanistan in the group stage.

Maxwell's knock eclipsed Shane Watson's 184 as the highest-ever ODI score from an Australian male player. It also marked just the third time in history that a male batter had surpassed 200 at the World Cup, joining Martin Guptill (237 not out in 2015) and Chris Gayle (215 in 2015).

Earlier in the tournament he smashed the fastest century in World Cup history with a 40-ball ton. He then made the joint-fastest hundred by an Australian men's player in a T20 international in a game after the World Cup against India. He brought up his century off just 47 balls - equalling the record shared by Aaron Finch and Josh Inglis for the fastest Aussie ton from a men's player in a T20 international.

“He's certainly hot property at the moment on the back of everything he did in the World Cup, the phone's been ringing off the hook,” Tippett revealed. “The tough thing with the cricket players is just managing their time.

“Everyone wants a piece of ‘Maxi’ right now, they want to see him in person and want him to do appearances, shoots and all of that stuff. But they (cricketers) just don't have a lot of time at home. He's on the road with the Big Bash. Then you look at next year, the Australian team has the West Indies series, then they go to New Zealand, then there’s the IPL and we’re into the T20 World Cup.

“It's really hard to find out those windows to sort of give everyone what they need. But he grew something like a million (Instagram) followers on the back of that 200 (against Afghanistan) on social media. He's up to about 13 million followers across all platforms right now and a lot of those are in India. It's probably 85 per cent in India … he's certainly a popular man around the world.”
