How Pakistan cricket could solve a bitter local footy war
The solution to the fiasco surrounding the naming of the new stands at the rebuilt Sydney Football Stadium has quite literally been staring the warring factions in the face for eight hours a day for almost a week.
First, for those just arriving at the story, a decision on whose names should be plastered on the $850m arena's stands has been mired in controversy, bitter debate and recrimination.
Or, to be more specific, one stand rather than stands.

Venues NSW, in charge of the process, has decided rugby league great Ron Coote, Australian football legend Johnny Warren and rugby's Sir Nicholas Shehadie will all be honoured when the ground opens later this year.
And, on that point, everyone is in agreement.
It’s the fourth stand that's causing more drama than beer prices at the footy.
A push to call it 'The Garrison', to commemorate the area's military past, has rightfully been kicked into touch after somehow making the draft submission.
The Daily Telegraph has been leading a campaign to have the stand named after rugby league Immortal Arthur Beetson, giving the state's most popular code two seats at the table.
The argument for Beetson is he played the majority of his career in Sydney after leaving Queensland, most notably for Eastern Suburbs at the old Sydney Sports Ground, upon which land the SFS sits.
He also played 18 games for NSW before the State of Origin concept was introduced in 1980.
The argument against using Beetson's name is he was a passionate Queenslander and the stand should be named after someone from NSW.
Grandstand name debate heats up at revamped SFS
But here’s the thing: Why are we restricting it to just four names?
They don't play much rugby league in Karachi, cricket being something of a big deal, but the answer to the SFS's dilemma is right there in front of them.
Every section of Karachi's National Stadium – and there are 14 of them - has an enclosure named after a famous Pakistani cricketer.
There's the Imran Khan Enclosure, the Javed Miandad Enclosure, the Wasim Akram Enclosure…you get the picture.
Heart rules the head today. The time I left a piece of mine in Lahore and sat in the Imran Khan enclosure. 😁 #Pakistan #PakvsIndia #PakistanZindabad #T20WorldCup pic.twitter.com/kZ3rIxxtwD

No controversy, no noses out of joint, no sulking in the corner.
The likes of sprinters Betty Cuthbert and Marjorie Jackson, rugby geniuses Mark Ella and David Campese and legendary coaches such as Jack Gibson, Rale Rasic, Bob Dwyer and Rod Macqueen could all come under consideration if the SFS decides to go the same way.
A speedway was also located on the site from 1937-55, opening the way for dirt bike motorcycling and car racing to also be acknowledged.
