Glenn Maxwell makes brutal new admission after horror leg injury
Cricket fans have expressed their sadness for Glenn Maxwell after the Aussie all-rounder revealed he doesn't know when he'll be back playing cricket. Maxwell broke his leg in a freak accident at a friend's 40th birthday party last month, ruining his chance to push for a Test recall for next year's tour of India.
The brutal injury also means Maxwell is sitting out the start of the BBL season. And while he was previously hopeful of getting back for the end of the season, he was still in a moon boot this week.

"I want it to be done and over with quickly," he said. "I don't want to be on crutches anymore. I don't want to be in a boot but it's just the process I'm going through at the moment on a bike, in the pool.
"I haven't got a return date for you yet until I can start walking properly and do other things, playing golf, doing some basic things around the house."
Incredibly, Maxwell revealed he's list five kilograms in the wake of the injury. "I'd love to be playing next game, that'd be great, but also not realistic," he said.
"The leg has been through a bit of trauma that I need to make sure that I do everything I can to make sure it's not a recurring injury with my ankle joint and that I can make sure that I'm solid on it for the rest of my career."
Speaking late last month, Maxwell provided further details about how the accident occurred. “One of my mates, who was also one of my schoolteachers, we were laughing about something and I pretended to chase him off somewhere,” he said.
“I reckon we both took about three or four steps out there, and both slipped at the same time. I just got my foot stuck a little bit, and he fell, unfortunately at a really bad angle and landed straight on my leg.
“It just snapped. I heard and felt every part of it. It was pretty painful. I was screaming a bit and he was like, ‘please tell me you’re joking, please tell me you’re joking’.”
Glenn Maxwell's devastation after innocuous accident
Maxwell said the most frustrating part of the ordeal is how innocuous it was. Neither himself or his friend are believed to have been intoxicated at the time.
“I probably didn’t sleep for two days while I was in agony,” Maxwell said. "It was it was a pretty horrible couple of days. My wife was unbelievable through it all.
“I shattered my fibula. So that one I think was the first snap I heard. It was snapped in half, but it also shattered through the bone. There was a bit of a chip off the tibia as well (and) I ruptured all the ligaments on top of my foot as well … the syndesmosis ligaments, they’re all ruptured. I did a good job of it for such an innocuous thing.
“This is the frustrating thing about it all – I’ve done some dumb things on the field, some dumb things off the field, and I’ve never even come close to injuring myself (like this). To do something so innocuously, it’s just frustrating. It was just a nothing incident. It was just a little bit slippery, and all of a sudden there goes a couple of months.”
As of the this evening, 53% of #SuperCoachBBL entrants had Glenn Maxwell in their team...
Devastating news for Australian cricket though. 💔 Here's hoping for a speedy recovery. https://t.co/dszDwnyLgg— Azza (@azzajewell) November 13, 2022
Freak accidents and cricketers, eh? Glenn Maxwell is out for up to 3 months after breaking his leg at a friend’s birthday party. Awful timing for him, although I guess there’s never a good time for injury.

It’s an Australian summer of cricket without an injured Glenn Maxwell. Sad.
