The upheaval at Cricket Australia continues to rumble on in the wake of Justin Langer's resignation as coach, with another key former member following the 51-year-old out the door.

Langer resigned this month after only being offered a six-month contract extension on the back of a 4-0 Ashes thrashing of England.

The former Australia opener had also masterminded a T20 World Cup triumph in the United Arab Emirates last year.

Eyebrows were raised over Langer's dramatic exit, but Australia Test captain Pat Cummins said the feeling in the dressing room was it was the right time for a new coach to be appointed.

Now, long-time team manager of the Australian men's team, Gavin Dovey has followed suit by also handing in his resignation.

It ends Dovey's association with CA which stretches over more than a decade after he took over the role from Steve Bernard in 2011.

Dovey's departure is the latest in a period of upheaval at CA that includes Langer's exit, as well as Tim Paine stepping down as Test captain and former chairman Earl Eddings' exit - all since October.

"Gavin has done an outstanding job over the past 11 years in what has been a very complex and demanding role," Cricket Australia high-performance manager Ben Oliver told the Age and Sydney Morning Herald.

"He felt now is the right time for the team, his family and himself personally as he pursues new opportunities, and we respect his decision. We are indebted to Gavin and his family and wish them the very best for the future."

Dovey made unwanted headlines last year after reportedly becoming involved in a heated confrontation with a cricket.com.au video journalist, who posted a video of the Bangladesh team celebrating their win over Australia.

New CA chairman Lachlan Henderson last week revealed that his organisation was eager to move on from the Langer era, and admitted that the coach's exit from the national set-up was "messy".

Henderson says he does not want a repeat of the way the situation played out so publicly.

He told reporters: "It got messy in terms of things playing out in the media. But the board's role was to receive recommendations from management. We made our decision based on that.

"With any significant decision like that boards should reflect on that process that was involved.

"It is unfortunate that a bit of that played out in the media, and we will reflect on whether that should have been accelerated through the summer."

Henderson will look to bring stability after taking over from interim leader Richard Freudenstein, who stepped in following Eddings' resignation.

The new chair has vowed to be transparent in a new era for Cricket Australia.

"My communication style will be to be open, transparent, hopefully consistent," he said on Thursday.

"I work in health care. We've negotiated a pandemic in the last two years. That's required a fair amount of resilience. So within the bounds of the confidentiality of boards, I hope that there's a really open and transparent way forward."
