Conor McGregor adds fuel to massive WWE rumour

Say what you will about Conor McGregor, one thing is for certain – the man knows how to capture attention.

The Irish MMA superstar has been unusually active on Twitter as of late, although mostly for the wrong reasons.

After taking to social media to announce a shock retirement from the sport, McGregor engaged in a controversial war of words with bitter rival Khabib Nurmagomedov.

The spat became so ugly it eventually forced UFC president Dana White to step in to tell the two fighters to settle down.

McGregor then took back his retirement, but his latest foray online has fans questioning whether his next move will be to join fellow former UFC icon Ronda Rousey in the WWE.

Shortly after Becky Lynch took out the main event at Wrestlemania, McGregor teased fans about a potential wrestling debut of his own.

“Stephanie McMahon you are right, I could not do what these athletes could do. Or could I?” McGregor cryptically wrote.

Rumours of McGregor moving to the WWE have swirled ever since his ‘retirement’ last month.

The Irish connection with Wrestlemania champ Lynch is also compelling.

Nonetheless, fan reaction to McGregor’s teasing tweet has been divided.

Some have expressed excitement over the prospect of McGregor in the WWE, while others would rather see the Irishman fully commit to the UFC.

Khabib’s stunning swipe at McGregor

Khabib Nurmagomedov has taken yet another sensational swipe at Conor McGregor, mocking the Irishman over his loss at UFC 229.

UFC boss Dana White has warned both fighters they need to cut out the vitriol, with McGregor tweeted a message of acceptance as well as a cryptic message that he was reversing the decision to retire.

However, Khabib has once again rekindled the fire after taking a crack at the change in McGregor’s trash-talking once he’d realised he was being outclassed in their October bout.

“He always wants to be in the headlines. If you noticed, after each UFC event he makes comments, he praises those who win or insults someone,” Nurmagomedov said.

“This is his way of self-promoting, that’s how he makes headlines all the time. It works for him, he knows what he’s doing and I got no problem with that. He can say whatever he wants.

“Inside the cage, he didn’t say anything. When I was hitting him in the face with my elbows and knees, when I said ‘let’s talk,’ he didn’t respond.

“And now, when he is thousands of kilometres away, he is saying things. That just shows what kind of lowlife he really is.

“I have no problem with that, because when we were one-on-one in the cage, when he was on the floor he didn’t speak to me. And that is what really matters.”
