Congo 'Terminator' Bosco Ntaganda Convicted of War Crimes by ICC

Bosco Ntaganda, a former rebel leader in the Democratic Republic of Congo, was convicted of 18 counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity by the International Criminal Court on Monday, July 8, at The Hague.

Ntaganda’s crimes included murder and attempted murder, rape, sexual slavery, persecution, forcible transfer, and deportation, judges at the court said.

Ntaganda, nicknamed Terminator, was deputy chief of staff in the Union of Congolese Patriots group when the crimes were committed, in 2002 and 2003.

The ICC first sought his arrest in 2006 and Ntaganda finally surrendered in Rwanda in 2013.
