This up-and-coming teen topped the celebrity field at the LPGA TOC but didn't win

ORLANDO, Fla. – Asterisk Talley flies back to California on Sunday to get ready for school and on Monday afternoon, she has an appointment to get her learner’s permit. Talley turns 16 in two weeks and hopes to soon hit the road.

When Talley earned a spot in this week’s amateur field at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions by virtue of her win at the Hilton Grand Vacations Annika Invitational earlier this month, she wasn’t sure what to expect. The 15-year-old wasn’t eligible to win the celebrity portion of the event, though she was playing the same tees at Lake Nona Golf & Country Club as the LPGA pros and most of the male celebrities.

Talley carded a 4-under 68 in the final round and topped the amateur board with 149 points in the Modified Stableford scoring format, finishing 11 points ahead of Will Lowery.

Recently retired hockey player Joe Pavelski topped the celebrity field with 145 points, which means Talley would’ve topped that field, too, had she been part of it.

Currently 16th in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, Talley finished runner-up at both the U.S. Girls’ Junior and U.S. Women’s Amateur and partnered with Sarah Lim to win the U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball. She also contended early at the U.S. Women’s Open at Lancaster Country Club.

“It was hard out there,” said Talley. “It's a tight course, really long on some holes, so I was really surprised.

“But I set high expectations for myself, so I was really happy to play well.”

Next up for Talley is the Fortinet Stanford Invitational hosted by Rose Zhang on the AJGA later this month, followed by a title defense at the prestigious Sage Valley and then her second appearance at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur.
