Collingwood legend reportedly arrested on eve of grand final

Collingwood great Dane Swan has reportedly been nabbed drink-driving.

Police said they intercepted a car at a preliminary breath testing site on Williams Road in Malvern about 11.30am on Friday.

A 34-year-old Prahran driver returned a positive breath test and was taken to a nearby police station where he returned a blood alcohol concentration reading of 0.054.

He received a $484 fine, had his licence immediately suspended for three months and will be required to have an alcohol interlock device.

The 34-year-old played 258 games for the grand-final bound Pies before retiring in 2016.

It’s the second drink driving charge to rock the AFL’s grand final lead-up in the last 24 hours

West Coast’s grand final-bound forward Liam Ryan has a court date next month after also being charged.

PerthNow reports the 21-year-old will front a magistrate on October 9 after an incident which took place in early July.

Police said Ryan crashed his Toyota Rav4 into a tree and was then later found in a nearby park at 6am.

Ryan served a two-match ban at the time, telling AAP the night was a big wake-up call.

“That car crash really straightened me up,” Ryan said earlier this month.

“I really had a lot of support from the boys, mainly Jetts (Louis Jetta) and mainly JK (Josh Kennedy), because he’s from the same area as me.

“I had a bit of stuff going on off the field. But now I’m fine, I’m all cleared with all that, and just focused on finals footy.”

The Eagles released a statement on Thursday night, saying it was aware of the charge.

“While Ryan was suspended for two AFL games by the club at the time, it has and will continue to work closely with him, with his health and wellbeing always being a priority,” it read.

“The club has kept the AFL informed of all circumstances around this incident and Liam has at all times co-operated fully with police.”
