Team USA Climber Colin Duffy shares how he was able to surprise himself during his path to qualifying for the 2020 Olympics.

My name is Colin Duffy. I'm 17, from Broomfield, Colorado. I've been climbing since I was four years old, and I qualified for the Olympics at the Pan American Championships in late March of 2020. I was probably 12 or 13 when it was announced that I would be in the Olympics. So I really had no aspirations to be in it. I was super-psyched at the sport, but I was definitely like, the had-- you know, I did not believe that it would even be possible since I was nowhere near to competing in adult competition.

But fortunately-- and, I guess really, I didn't think I would have any sort of chance until almost the start of 2020. Then things lined up, and I was able to qualify to the Pan American Championships and where I was able to claim my ticket to Tokyo.
