'Class acts': Coco Gauff's incredible exchange with her dad

An exchange between American teen tennis sensation Coco Gauff and her father and coach Corey has warmed the hearts of tennis fans across the world.

Gauff, who exploded onto the scene in 2019 at the age of just 15, was competing at the Auckland Open when she sat down with her father and coach after winning a tough first set against German contender Laura Siegmund.

Having your own father as your coach is bound to create some weird situations from time to time, but Corey’s advice to Coco proved to be sage after the tough 7-5 opening set.

“You know you didn’t play that well, right? But you found a way,” he said.

“That’s a champion.

“That’s how you play, you found a way.

“Now you’re warmed up. You were a little bit slow because you didn’t warm up that well. Now you’re warm.”

It wasn’t all one way traffic though - as Corey counselled his daughter on what Siegmund was doing with her serve, the junior Gauff had to remind her old man to watch his language.

While Gauff eventually went down to Siegmund in three sets, 5-7, 6-2, 6-3, the conversation between the two became a talking point for many tennis fans.

“And you know the one thing you did in the last three games, you didn’t give up no free points on her damn serve.” Corey said.

“Her serve was weak. It’s real slow.”

Coco couldn’t help but interrupt after that final piece of advice.

“Don’t curse....you said the d-word,” she informed her father.

“OK. All right, I’m sorry about that,” Corey replied.

Swiss tennis star’s hilarious bushfire pledge

Swiss star Belinda Bencic has joined the ever-expanding list of tennis stars to commit to the bushfire fundraising cause.

While the likes of Nick Kyrgios have pledged $250 for every ace they hit over the Australian summer to go towards the bushfire crisis, Bencic has opted for a slightly different strategy.

“Although I’m not the best at hitting aces but much better at hitting double faults, I will donate $200 for every one I serve at my next tournaments,” Bencic tweeted.

“Like that, I won’t be angry at myself when I hit one and finally they will be useful.”
