Chelsea confirm £12m Mathis Amougou signing in final arrival of winter transfer window
Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Saint-Etienne midfielder Mathis Amougou in a deal worth around £12million.
The 19-year-old has signed an eight-year contract.
“I'm very happy,” told the club’s official website. “It's an honour for me to sign for such a big club like Chelsea.
“They believe in young players and the process they have in place to develop us is fantastic.”
Chelsea were scouring the market for a new midfielder and struck a deal for Amougou on Deadline Day.
Amougou is expected to be integrated into Enzo Maresca’s first-team squad for the remainder of the season, with a loan to sister club Strasbourg an option next season.
Amougou was a regular starter for Saint-Etienne in the first few months of the season under their previous head coach Olivier Dall’Oglio, but he has been used more as a substitute under new boss Eirik Horneland.
While Amougou was the only incoming in the final days of the transfer window for Chelsea, it has been a busy time for the Blues.
Joao Felix’s loan move to AC Milan was confirmed earlier on Tuesday, while Carney Chukwuemeka moved to Borussia Dortmund on loan, Ben Chilwell will spend the rest of the sesason at Crystal Palace and Axel Disasi has joined Aston Villa on a similar deal.
Earlier in the window, Renato Veiga joined Juventus on loan and Cesare Casadei also left Chelsea this month in a permanent sale to Torino.
