Chelsea 2-2 Burnley: Cole Palmer brace not enough as ten-man Clarets frustrate chaotic Blues

Cole Palmer netted a brace but it was not enough for three points as Chelsea were held to a 2-2 draw by ten-man Burnley at Stamford Bridge.

The 21-year-old continued his superb first season in west London with a typically cool panenka, after Lorenz Assignon had conceded a first-half penalty and been sent off in the process.

That should have sent Chelsea on their way to a comfortable afternoon, but Josh Cullen got the Clarets level with a superb strike shortly after the break, a deserved reward for what had been an impressive performance.

As frustrations grew around the stadium, Palmer restored the Blues’ lead with just over ten minutes remaining, after a lovely flick from Raheem Sterling, though that advantage was swiftly wiped out by a Dara O’Shea header, one that Djordje Petrovic should have kept out.

Burnley looked just as likely to find a late winner, as Jay Rodriguez thundered a header against the bar. It finished level, with the full-time whistle greeted by a chorus of boos from the Chelsea fans.
