The comments from the official were regarding Basaksehir’s coach Pierre Webo, senior club sources told The Athletic.
Television footage captured the exchange between the fourth official,Sebastian Coltescu, and the referee, Ovidiu Hategan with Coltescu telling Hategan in Romanian that Webo should be reprimanded for his behaviour on the sidelines.
"Go and give it (the red card) to the black one, this is not possible (tolerable), go and identify him, go verify, the black one over there," Coltescu allegedly said about Webo.
Webo was enraged and was heard to repeat at least six times "Why you say negro?" as he sought an explanation from Coltescu.
UEFA responds to alleged comments
UEFA were quick to release a statement on the dramatic scenes confirming the game would recommence with a new official in place.
"Following an alleged incident involving the 4th official, the match was temporarily suspended,” it said.
“After consultation with both teams, it was agreed that the match would restart with a different 4th official.”
However the Basaksehir players later confirmed they would not return.
The governing body later tweeted its condemnation of the alleged incident.
“Racism, and discrimination in all its forms, has no place within football,” it said.
The game will now be played on Wednesday (local time), UEFA later confirmed.
"A thorough investigation on the incident that took place will be opened immediately."
Demba Ba confronts official
A furious Demba Ba was seen remonstrating with Coltescu moments after the incident.
The veteran Basaksehir striker can be seen asking him why he referred to the colour of the coach’s skin.
“You never say ‘this white guy’... so why you have to say ‘this black guy?” he said.
The striker was hailed on social media in the wake of the incident.

I'm happy Demba Ba didn't look the other way because he wasn't the one racially abused. His assistant coach Pierre Webo would be so pleased with him.
Football needs more people like Demba -- people who can stand up for victims of racism even if they themselves aren't the target.— 'Fisayo Soyombo (@fisayosoyombo) December 8, 2020
