Man Utd legend's bizarre and cryptic speech stuns football world

Manchester United legend Eric Cantona has continued to leave fans speechless long after his football career finished after stealing the Champions League draw with a cryptic speech.

Cantona became a Manchester United legend with his magniloquent showmanship at Old Trafford that shot him to superstardom.

But the Frenchman also became known for his bizarre and poetic monologues in front of the press.

But his speech after accepting the Uefa President’s Award has once again left fans wondering what on earth the Frenchman was talking about.

The host asked Cantona “what’s going through your mind right now?”, which prompted a Shakespeare quote and a cryptic answer.

Manchester United legend Eric Cantona gave a speech after being given the UEFA President’s Award at Thursday's Champions League draw. That’s the only thing I can say for certain. It was a speech. A speech about what, exactly? We may never know.

“What’s going on through your mind right now?” the host asked Cantona. And then the Frenchman took us on a very strange trip.

“As flies to wanton boys, we are for the gods,” Cantona began, quoting from Shakespeare’s King Lear.

“They kill us for their sport. Soon the science will not only be able to slow down the ageing of the cells.

“Soon the science will fix cells to the state. And so we become eternal. Only accidents, crimes, wars will still kill us. But unfortunately, crimes and wars will multiply. I love football. Thank you.”

The cameras panned to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo - who were sitting next to each other - during the speech, which showed the Juventus forward looking on in bewilderment.
