Carlisle United head coach Mike Williamson says they are desperate for more January signings to pull them out of trouble.

The 1-0 defeat by Tranmere Rovers leaves Carlisle bottom of League Two and six points adrift of safety.

New signings Elliot Embleton and Callum Whelan made their debuts at Prenton Park, but Williamson wants more reinforcements to aid their relegation fight.

"We have to work on all fronts," he told BBC Radio Cumbria. "I can't comment on who we're close to yet, but we're hoping to get two, three or four more bodies through the door as soon as possible."

Carlisle's cause has not been helped by losses over the festive period to Morecambe and now Tranmere - two sides also struggling near the bottom.

And the performance against Rovers was met with anger by the 1,200 fans who had travelled down from Cumbria to the Wirral, something which Williamson accepts.

"Me standing here watching it, it's frustrating, angry, especially with that performance," he said.

"It's not acceptable. I completely understand it."
