Caleb Marchbank in hospital for checks on 'raised heartbeat'

Caleb Marchbank has been taken to hospital for checks on his heart after he was pulled from Carlton’s loss to Brisbane in the final quarter.

The defender was playing his first game since round six but is now under observation after what Blues coach Brendon Bolton described as a “raised heartbeart.”

“I don’t really understand it fully,” he said.

“He’s okay but there was some raised heartbeat going on.

“The doctor said he’s okay, so he’s off to hospital now so be checked. We’ll see how that unfolds.”

Carlton were coming off a stirring display last week against Port Adelaide but have now copped further injury blows after a demoralising defeat.

The Lions won 18.12 (120) to 7.13 (55) and the margin probably should have been higher.

Kade Simpson was a late withdrawal on Saturday with a calf injury – and then the match started.

As well as Marchbank, Andrew Phillips (hamstring) and Jacob Weitering (calf) both failed to see out the contest.

“I think our supporters can understand the reality of where we’re at just now,” Bolton said.

“We have a lot of work to do. We’ve been impacted significantly, particularly down back with injuries. We’re disappointed.”
