Lions prop sin-binned for sickening late hit
British and Irish Lions prop Joe Marler found himself on the sidelines against the Chiefs for a sickening late hit.
The Lions went down a man early in Waikato, in their final warm-up game ahead of Saturday’s first Test against New Zealand.
Marler, clearly desperate to force his way into Warren Gatland's starting side, was a bit overzealous in the early stages.
The Harlequins prop hit opposite number Nepo Laulala with a shocking late tackle after the Chiefs player had passed the ball and turned his back.
Referee Jerome Garces was left with no choice but to sin-bin Marler, with many saying he was lucky not to receive a red card.
The Lions went on to record their first mid-week win of the tour, outclassing the Chiefs 34-6.
The hosts barely had a sniff on home soil on Tuesday night as a supposedly second-string Lions squad - missing most of the players who will play the All Blacks on Saturday - picked them apart at will, running in four tries and dominating from first to last.
