Brighton 0-0 Manchester United LIVE! FA Cup result, match stream, latest reaction and updates today
Brighton vs Manchester United LIVE!
Victor Lindelof scored the decisive penalty as Manchester United beat Brighton 7-6 in a shootout to reach the FA Cup final. There were big chances for both sides in a goalless 120 minutes at Wembley, with Bruno Fernandes dragging a first-half effort wide while Danny Welbeck and Julio Enciso were among those to go close for the impressive Seagulls.
With every heavy touch and missed opportunity, penalties appeared increasingly inevitable and so it proved, as the semi-final went to the spot. Player after player stepped up and held their nerve, 12 perfect penalties extending the shootout, but Solly March blazed his effort over the bar and that set the stage for Lindelof step up as United’s hero. He fired his penalty into the top corner to start the celebrations in the red camp, with a Manchester derby now to come on June 3, the first time the two sides have met in an FA Cup final.
Manchester City beat Sheffield United on Saturday to book their place in the showpiece event, and it could well be down to United to halt their rivals’ treble bid at Wembley at the end of the season.

Reaction from De Gea
19:33 , Matt Verri
“It was a very tight game we played a very good team. Brighton play really good football. We are now in the final but we have another big game on Thursday so we need to go home and recover.
“They were great penalties. I was prepared as always. I tried to put pressure on the takers. There’s still a long way to the final but it will be a big game against one of the best teams in Europe and the world.
“We showed at home we can beat them [Man City] so let’s hope.”
Manchester derby to come!

Lindelof to send Manchester United into the FA Cup final.
HE SCORES! A Manchester derby at Wembley on June 3.
MISSES! Brighton 6-6 Man United
19:18 , Matt Verri
March for Brighton. A few words from Weghorst as he hands the ball over.
AND HE’S BLAZED IT MILES OVER THE BAR! Awful.
SCORES! Brighton 6-6 Man United
19:17 , Matt Verri
Weghorst. Wasn’t in the five-man list for the initial takers.
But that’s very calm, into the bottom corner! On we go.
SCORES! Brighton 6-5 Man United
19:17 , Matt Verri
Webster next up for Brighton.
And he tucks it away, De Gea once more dives the wrong way. Hasn’t got near them yet.
SCORES! Brighton 5-5 Man United

Sabitzer for United. Must score.
JUST! Dear me. Sanchez got a big hand to that, but turns it into the side-netting.
Sudden death!

Dunk for Brighton. Captain with all the pressure.
AND SCORES! United have to score or it’s all over.
SCORES! Brighton 4-4 Man United

Rashford to level it up, otherwise Brighton will be one penalty away from the final.
He holds his nerve!
Sanchez again goes the right way, but it’s lifted above him.
SCORES! Brighton 4-3 Man United

Estupinan strolls up for Brighton.
Make that seven! Calm run-up, and rolls it into the bottom corner. Pressure building...
SCORES! Brighton 3-3 Man United
19:12 , Matt Verri
Sancho the next United player up.
And it’s six perfect penalties! Sanchez went early there, Sancho lifts it the opposite way.
SCORES! Brighton 3-2 Man United
19:12 , Matt Verri
Undav for Brighton, didn’t have a great game when he came on.
But that’s brilliant, too good for De Gea who guessed correctly.
SCORES! Brighton 2-2 Man United
19:11 , Matt Verri
Dalot up to try and level this shootout.
And he does! Sanchez went the right way, couldn’t get there though.
SCORES! Brighton 2-1 Man United

Gross the next man up for Brighton. Rain has now disappeared.
Wow, lashes into the top corner, very brave!

Casemiro for United. Same penalty, same outcome!
SCORES! Brighton 1-0 Man United

Mac Allister up first, great penalty! De Gea goes the wrong way, tucked into the opposite corner.
19:08 , Matt Verri
Dunk and De Gea over to the referee for the toss, as the rain begins to pour down.
Shootout taking place in front of the Brighton fans, with the Seagulls going first.

FT: Brighton 0-0 Man United
19:04 , Matt Verri
There we go. It’s goalless after 120 minutes.
To the penalty spot we go!
19:03 , Matt Verri
120 mins: Just the one minute added on.
It looks like we’re going to a penalty shootout...
19:02 , Matt Verri
119 mins: Nearly had more than that!
Brilliant run from March, skips past Fred and Malacia to get to the byline. Shaw across to deflect the cross into the side-netting, corner Brighton.
19:01 , Matt Verri
118 mins: Brighton hanging on a bit now. Casemiro with a strike from distance, comfortably saved, before a couple of crosses come in and the Seaglls just about clear.
They’d definitely take penalties now.
18:59 , Matt Verri
117 mins: Ridiculous foul from Veltman out wide on Weghorst, gives United the chance to put something into the box.
Or not. Sabitzer has managed to balloon it about three miles over everyone and straight out of play. Ten Hag looks a bit stunned by that.
18:56 , Matt Verri
114 mins: BRIGHTON NEARLY WIN IT!
That should have been it. Mitoma with brilliant footwork on the edge of the box, slides it throught to Mac Allister and it’s played back to Mitoma.
Six yards out, heavy touch and De Gea can come out to clear, as Mitoma slides in and fouls the goalkeeper. A better touch and that was a goal.
18:55 , Matt Verri
112 mins: Rashford too quick for Brighton, he drives into the box and looks to find the far corner. Just wide! Very nearly the moment for United.
Most of these players looking absolutely exhausted now, but still they push for a winner.
18:53 , Matt Verri
111 mins: Veltman and Rashford collide, as the Man United man looks to make the run in behind.
United convinced it should be a free-kick, and potentially a red card for Veltman, but they get neither.
18:52 , Matt Verri
109 mins: It’s all feeling very tense now. Neither side wants to risk losing it.
It’s a patched-up United defence this afternoon, but they’ve done really well to keep the Brighton frontline at bay.
18:50 , Matt Verri
107 mins: Undav and Weghorst now the two strikers. Wouldn’t say either particularly convinces you they’ll step up and win this match.
Here’s March, driving at the United defence and is closed down by Fred. Again takes too long to get the shot away, eventually does so and it’s comfortable for De Gea.
Back underway!
18:48 , Matt Verri
Here we go. 15 minutes to find a winner or it’s penalties.
HT: Brighton 0-0 Man United
18:46 , Matt Verri
Still it remains goalless!
Impossible to predict this, feels like there will be chances at both ends.
18:44 , Matt Verri
105 mins: Stunning save!
Brighton lose the ball on the edge of their own box, big trouble. Falls for Rashford, destined for the far corner but Sanchez at full stretch turns it behind.
One minute added on.
18:42 , Matt Verri
103 mins: Match is opening up, tired legs helping that. Ball flashes across the face of the Brighton goal, nobody in a red shirt there for a tap-in.
Mitoma drives forward for Brighton, into the box but his legs give up on him and he stumbles over.
18:39 , Matt Verri
100 mins: Rashford is away down the left, ball played back to Sancho.
Cuts inside and out, chance goes for the shot so he lays it across to Fred... big swing and thin air. Not that it matters, offside flag eventually goes up.
At the other end, Mitoma skips away from the challenges and slides the pass through to a motionless Undav, who has not been very impressive. To put it mildly.
18:37 , Matt Verri
98 mins: Almost!
United finally turning up in extra-time. Sancho clips a cross into the middle, Sabitzer wins the header but glances it just wide of the far post. Not too far away.
18:36 , Matt Verri
97 mins: Lindelof drags Mac Allister back, almost ripped his shirt off him. Not particularly subtle and that will be a yellow card.
Brighton take it quickly, Caicedo tries his luck from distance but that’s never troubling De Gea.
18:34 , Matt Verri
95 mins: Undav fluffs his lines!
A lovely Brighton move, Caicedo plays the ball through to his striker but it’s a really poor first touch and the chance goes.
Brighton once again starting a half well, we’ve seen this twice already today. Can they make it count this time?
18:32 , Matt Verri
93 mins: Mitoma driving into space, Lindelof again in the right place to intercept though.
Brighton win it back, March drifting inside but overruns in and, guess what, Lindelof arrives on the scene to boot the ball away.
Back underway!
18:29 , Matt Verri
Up and running again at Wembley. Sabitzer on for Antony for United.
Always been an attacking full-back...

90 done, 30 to go!
Extra-time, and potentially penalties, to decide this FA Cup semi-final.
18:23 , Matt Verri
90+2 mins: Mitoma has had a quiet game but he tries to make the difference in the final seconds.
Onto his right, into the box but it’s a heavy touch and he slides in on Casemiro, catching the Brazilian late. Yellow card.
18:21 , Matt Verri
90+1 mins: Three minutes added on.
Gross to the back post this time, March gets up but not enough and it’s headed well over the bar.
18:19 , Matt Verri
89 mins: Brighton with a corner of their own, as we tick towards stoppage-time.
Near post again, Rashford heads it out. Set-pieces really haven’t been particularly impressive from either side.
18:18 , Matt Verri
88 mins: Sancho has his first chance to run with it, feeds Dalot instead. Comes back to him, curling strike deflected over the bar for a United corner.
No pace on it, headed away comfortable. Really poor from Fernandes.
18:15 , Matt Verri
85 mins: Brighton starting to take control, Antony diving in on Mac Allister and giving away a needless free-kick.
Gross takes it short, wide to Estupinan. Only problem was Estupinan had no idea that was going to happen. Antony across to win it back and then draws a foul himelf.
Sancho on to replace Martial.
18:12 , Matt Verri
82 mins: Lovely turn from Caicedo, looks for the one-two and thinks he’s been brought down by Casemiro. Referee does not.
Brighton on top after the break, United then had a strong spell for 15 minutes... it’s now anyone’s game.
March drifts inside and fires a low effort at goal, De Gea down well to keep it out.
18:10 , Matt Verri
80 mins: March swings the cross in, Shaw there at the near post to head it away.
Martial holds the ball up well, dragged down by Webster who knew exactly what he was doing in halting the counter. Does incredibly well to avoid a yellow card.
18:08 , Matt Verri
78 mins: Dalot brought down very cynically, but advantage for United as Rashford takes over.
Into the box, runs out of space though and Brighton win the goal-kick. Caicedo the latest player to go down, he was the man who halted Dalot’s progress.
Back up, but not moving particularly well.
18:05 , Matt Verri
75 mins: Welbeck on his feet but he’s going off, Undav on to replace him for the final 15 minutes.
I say final 15, as it stands we’re going to have an extra 30. Still plenty of time for either side to win it in normal time though.
18:04 , Matt Verri
73 mins: That’s better from Brighton, Gross slides a great pass through to Welbeck in the box.
About to get the shot away, takes a swing at the ball but Lindelof pokes it away and instead gets swiped himself. Free-kick United, but it’s Welbeck down holding his knee.
18:03 , Matt Verri
72 mins: Brighton really sitting off now, United with all of the ball.
Mac Allister has moved further upfield since Enciso was replaced, but he’s finding it hard to get involved.
17:59 , Matt Verri
69 mins: Feels like it’s United now who look the more likely to score. Brighton struggling to get on the ball and get out of their own half.
That helps, Wan-Bissaka clips the ball down the line and straight out of play.
17:56 , Matt Verri
66 mins: Fernandes and Rashford standing over this.
It’s Fernandes... straight into the wall. Back out to him, and hammered over the bar. Rashford’s turn next time.
Brighton make their first change, Enciso off and Veltman coming on.
17:54 , Matt Verri
64 mins: Antony might want to try passing.
He cut inside, Martial and Rashford waiting to his left but he goes for goal and once again doesn’t really catch it. Comfortable save for Sanchez.
United will have a big chance here though, Rashford brought down by Enciso 20 yards out. Very central.
17:52 , Matt Verri
61 mins: United all of a sudden on the charge, this is turning into a great match. Wan-Bissaka drives forward on the right, ball in bobbles around but it won’t quite fall for a red shirt after Antony fails to control.
And here is that change. Fred on to replace Eriksen.
17:49 , Matt Verri
59 mins: Antony at the other end, Fernandes free to be played in but goes for goal instead. Tame effort straight at Sanchez.
Fred is getting ready to come on for United, Ten Hag knows his side are being dominated at the moment.
17:47 , Matt Verri
57 mins: Corner in, Webster’s header nodded back out by Casemiro. Mitoma, shot blocked, falls for Enciso and it’s a superb save to deny him! Brilliant from De Gea.
Another corner though... big chance! Welbeck gets up at the back post but he powers the header over the bar from a few yards out. Massive moment.
17:46 , Matt Verri
56 mins: Mitoma runs straight into Wan-Bissaka, but Brighton are swiftly back on the attack.
Ball clipped over the top, Lindelof beats Welbeck to it but he can only knock it behind for a corner. Pressure well and truly on.
17:43 , Matt Verri
53 mins: Caicedo skips forward in midfield, Casemiro can’t touch him but Shaw can. Drags him down and picks up a yellow card.
Gross looks for Dunk, finds him and it’s nodded down but United just about hack it away. Brighton well on top here.
17:40 , Matt Verri
50 mins: Caicedo and then Estupinan free on the edge of the box, both decide not to shoot. Brighton continue to try and play their way through, even in the area. Corner coming up.
Swung in deep, Dunk nods it back to Estupinan and that might explain why he hasn’t been shooting. Lashed miles over the bar.
17:38 , Matt Verri
48 mins: Antony drives into the box, stays wide and on his rigth foot this time in playing the ball low into the six-yard box. Martial can’t get there.
Been a decent start to the half from United, but here come Brighton as Estupinan picks out March. Keeps refusing to get a shot away, eventually the door is slammed shut.
Back underway!
17:35 , Matt Verri
Up and running again at Wembley.
17:31 , Matt Verri
Brighton have had plenty of nice build-up, but the final ball hasn’t quite been there for them.
They struggled a bit more in the final 20 minutes or so of the half, those stoppages seemed to halt their momentum.
Ten Hag will be pretty satisfied overall. His side haven’t been anywhere near their best, but they’re still level and have had chances.
Fluffed his lines...

HT: Brighton 0-0 Man United
17:20 , Matt Verri
And that’s half-time.
Entertaining end to what was a cagey first 45 minutes, plenty of stoppages.
Huge chance for Fernandes to put United in front, but he couldn’t take it. All to play for still.
17:18 , Matt Verri
45+2 mins: Brighton really need half-time, they’re struggling all of a sudden.
Ball out to Rashford, into the box and cuts it back for Eriksen. He’s free at the back post, doesn’t catch the shot particularly well though and Sanchez just boots it away.
17:16 , Matt Verri
45 mins: Three minutes added on.
United having a better spell, Brighton lose the ball high up the pitch and Sanchez is off his line. Martial goes for the lob from 40 yards out, sails well over the bar.
17:15 , Matt Verri
44 mins: BIG CHANCE!
The biggest of the match. Fernandes played clean through, drags the shot wide of the far post. Had to score.
Martial less than impressed that the ball wasn’t squared to him.
17:13 , Matt Verri
42 mins: Lindelof too tight on Enciso, brings the Brighton man down after a smart turn. Casemiro might want to be a bit more careful, as he boots the ball away as the whistle goes.
There have been some nice moments from Brighton, but this has been a pretty low-key half overall.
17:11 , Matt Verri
40 mins: Fernandes had spent about 15 minutes of this half on the floor. Looks to chop inside of Estupinan, runs into him and goes down holding his face. Referee couldn’t care less.
Casemiro then strong in midfield to stop the Brighton counter, not put off by his yellow card.
17:09 , Matt Verri
38 mins: United players quickly over to surround the referee and demand a yellow card as Webster catches Martial late.
Ten Hag making the same point to the fourth official, but they’re all ignored. Just a free-kick.
17:07 , Matt Verri
36 mins: Casemiro earns the first yellow card of the afternoon.
Closing down Mac Allister, but then loses his patience and slides straight through the back of the Brighton midfielder. Completely needless.
17:06 , Matt Verri
35 mins: Another United goal-kick, another one sent long by De Gea. Harmlessly allowed to run through to Sanchez, Martial hasn’t had a kick so far.
Caicedo then skips past a couple of red shirts and pings a lovely pass out to Estupinan. Brighton full of confidence.
17:03 , Matt Verri
32 mins: United are being pushed back, Mitoma finding more and more space.
He cuts inside again, brilliant challenge from Wan-Bissaka to stop the shot but the ball rolls free for Enciso. Lashed at goal, wide of the post. Not sure De Gea would have got there.
17:01 , Matt Verri
30 mins: Brighton starting to get going again after all those stoppages.
Mitoma in behind, knocks the ball across the face of goal but nobody in a blue and white shirt has made the run. Dalot there to intercept and United can clear the danger.
16:59 , Matt Verri
28 mins: Casemiro is not having a great game at all, really sloppy on the ball so far.
United showing very little interest in playing out from the back under pressure, De Gea happy to just punt the ball up the pitch. Probably for the best.
16:57 , Matt Verri
26 mins: We’re going to have about three days added on at this rate.
Fernandes is up, back on the pitch but now Rashford is down. Got a bit of a barge in the ribs from Gross as he went up for a header, he’s holding his ribs.
He’s up and about, and United are finally back to 11 fit, ish, players.
16:55 , Matt Verri
24 mins: And he’s done again. This time catches his ankle in the pitch as he closes in on Mac Allister, that’s a really painful one.
Fernandes will get some treatment on it, but he’s not looking in a great way at the moment.
16:53 , Matt Verri
22 mins: March back up and fine to continue for now.
It’s Fernandes’ turn to hit the floor now, as Welbeck catches him later. Fernandes briefly about to break into full complaining mode, but reluctantly accepts Welbeck helping him up.
16:50 , Matt Verri
19 mins: March down after colliding with Dalot, looks to be in a fair bit of pain holding his ankle.
This will be a concern for Brighton, March and Gross have been causing plenty of problems down that right wing.
16:47 , Matt Verri
16 mins: This match is really starting to come alive.
Gross down the right, gets to the byline and cuts it back. Welbeck swings at thin air, ball runs through to the back post where Mitoma and Estupinan both try to shoot and get in each other’s way.
16:46 , Matt Verri
14 mins: United’s first real attack, very nearly take the lead.
Antony back on the right now, brings the ball forward. Played inside, brilliant pass from Eriksen through to Fernandes and his strike is parried out by Sanchez. Fortunate Antony wasn’t there on the rebound.
16:43 , Matt Verri
12 mins: Lovely Brighton move, Estupinan very nearly away down the right but the ball is just flicked away from him.
United rushed when they’re on the ball, De Gea kicks the ball straight out of play as Antony and Gross clash on the touchline. Interesting that Antony has started on the left.
Brighton come again, Enciso from the edge of the box and he slices an effort wide.
16:40 , Matt Verri
9 mins: Brighton very nearly caught out by a long ball lumped over the top.
Eriksen and Rashford both running onto it, thankfully for Sanchez and Brighton it just about rolls through to him in time.
16:38 , Matt Verri
7 mins: Mac Allister goes to the goalkeeper’s side, De Gea turns it behind for a corner. Not massively convincing but just about paws it away.
March swings it in, volleyed away at the near post by Fernandes and United can get up the pitch.
16:37 , Matt Verri
6 mins: Mitoma is just so dangerous. He drifts inside, just about to get a shot away on the edge of the box when Antony cuts across and shoves him over.
Free-kick Brighton, 20 yards out in a great position for a right-footer. Real danger for United.
16:35 , Matt Verri
4 mins: First spell of Brighton possession, as patient as ever.
Webster wide to March, who swings a cross into the box towards Enciso but it’s over his head and Wan-Bissaka can watch it sail away for a goal-kick.
16:33 , Matt Verri
2 mins: Confident start from United, haven’t let Brighton get going at all.
De Gea keeping his cool passing out from the back, would be particularly helpful to United if he could avoid some of those errors we saw on Thursday night...
KICK-OFF!
16:31 , Matt Verri
De Zerbi for once looks in a relatively good mood, warm embrace with Ten Hag. We’ll see how long that remains the case.

16:26 , Matt Verri
Glorious afternoon at Wembley, perfect conditions.
Brighton have to fancy their chances of returning to this stadium in June, they’ve been in sensational form and can cause United huge problems.

United go for double cup success
16:02 , Matt Verri
There was plenty of talk about Man United potentially winning three trophies this season, and even a couple of months ago of a possible title charge.
That hasn’t happened though, and with the Europa League campaign also over, this is a huge afternoon for United.
Top four looks pretty much in the bag, so it’s the FA Cup that will be the key to deciding how this season finishes.
Three in a row for Brighton?
15:53 , Matt Verri
Not great recent memories for Man United when it comes to facing Brighton.
Beaten 4-0 at the Amex last season, before Erik ten Hag’s reign at Old Trafford got underway in poor fashion as the Seagulls picked up three points at the start of the season, when Graham Potter was still in charge.
