Little known T20 cricketer Brad Currie has given cricket fans a highlight for the ages in England's domestic league, soaring horizontally through the air to snare one of the most impressive catches in recent history. The Scottish 22-year-old, who only made his first class debut in July last year, was on debut for Sussex in the T20 Blast fixture against Hampshire when he captured the cricket world with a moment of brilliance.

It would take a lot to get the attention of England captain Ben Stokes after day one of the first Ashes Test, but Currie did just that, the skipper posting a video of the stunning catch with a one-word caption - 'filth'. Batsman Benny Howell had indeed been done dirty after appearing to have smashed a six hard and flat towards the leg side boundary.

Currie though, had other ideas. He began a dead sprint towards the ball as it flew towards the boundary line, before leaping and stretching to snare one of the best catches in T20 history - no mean feat given the shortened form of the game's propensity for absurd highlights.

Not only was it an incredible athletic feat, Currie's catch to dismiss Howell was arguably a match-winning one for Sussex, given Hampshire required 23 runs from the 11 remaining deliveries at the time for the victory. Hampshire fell just seven runs short of victory - making Currie's catch a game-saving one.

It was an enjoyable debut on the T20 Blast for Currie, who also took 3-27 in his four overs. His efforts were enough for him to earn man of the match honours.

Meanwhile on social media, fans had absolutely erupted over the brilliant feat. In addition to the likes of Stokes, England all-rounder Danni Wyatt and former Pakistan skipper Urooj Mumtaz Khan also paid tribute to Currie.

"I think you just act on instinct," Currie said when asked about the amazing moment after the match. "Out came a flying version of me and it just sort of stuck."

Commentator Mark Butcher was left in disbelief, having initially thought Howell had easily done enough to get a crucial six. Instead, Howell could only look on in amazement, along with everyone else tuned in.

"Oh he's got it," Butcher called after Howell played his shot. "He's … oh my goodness me. Did you ever … see anything like that?"
