Boxing great Mike Tyson has landed in hot water after amateur footage emerged of him apparently beating up a passenger on a flight, after the man wouldn't leave him alone.

Video of the former heavyweight champion pummeling a fellow passenger in a plane has gone viral, with TMZ reporting the incident took place Wednesday night on a JetBlue flight from San Francisco International Airport to Florida.

The man can be seen in the footage leaning over the seat in front of him where Tyson was sitting.

It's unclear what the man is saying but he seems to be keen to get Tyson's attention, with the 55-year-old boxing great initially sitting still and ignoring the passenger.

TMZ presents the video as a play in three acts: the passenger appearing to harass Tyson while sitting behind him, Tyson in the middle of introducing said passenger to his fists and the passenger seemingly making a mock pouting face while sporting some cuts on the side of his head.

That video doesn't tell the whole story, but TMZ claims a witness said the passenger was heavily intoxicated and wouldn't stop trying to goad Tyson in his seat.

"The witness tells us Mike took a selfie with him ... and then was patient with his overly excited buddy, who kept trying to talk to the 55-year-old fighter as he sat behind him," TMZ said.

"Eventually, though, we're told Tyson had enough of the guy behind him talking in his ear ... and told him to chill. When the guy didn't, that's when the witness says Tyson started to throw several punches at the man's face."

The man reportedly received medical attention and went to police after the incident."

Mike Tyson had rollercoaster career

Tyson is considered to be one of the greatest heavyweight boxers of all time.

He was the undisputed world heavyweight champion from 1987 to 1990 and remains the youngest boxer ever to win a heavyweight title.

The American boxing legend was convicted of raping an 18-year-old woman in 1992.

He was sentenced to six years in prison, but was granted an early release in 1995.

After his release from prison he regained the WBA and WBC titles in 1996, joining Floyd Patterson, Muhammad Ali, Tim Witherspoon, Evander Holyfield and George Foreman as the only men in boxing history to regain a world heavyweight championship after losing it.

After retiring in 2005, Tyson made a comeback to the ring in November of 2020 in an exhibition bout against Roy Jones Jr.
