Devin Haney and Aussie George Kambosos were dragged into an ugly situation after a scuffle erupted post-fight in the ring after the American unified the lightweight division.

Kambosos Jr relinquished his three world title belts after a clear unanimous defeat to Haney in their lightweight blockbuster.

HUGE: Boxing fans in frenzy over Tim Tszyu announcement

The American won on all three judges scorecards as his jab and brilliant footwork nullified Kambosos' counters.

However, some ugly scenes threatened to derail the night as it appeared the fathers of the two fighters weren't happy with each other after the result was handed down.

The spider cam above the ring picked up a number of security and coaching staff appearing to hold back the two as they traded words.

Haney's father, Bill, appeared to take offence with something Jim Kambosos said as they traded barbs.

Promoter Lou DiBella separated the pair.

Fans on social media were quick to pick up on the scuffle inside the ring only moments after the historic lightweight division bout.

Haney inflicted Kambosos with the first loss of his 21-fight career at Marvel Stadium to add the WBA, WBO and IBF titles to the WBC strap he already held.

The 23-year-old joins an exclusive club of seven fighters, including legends Bernard Hopkins, Terence Crawford and Tim Tszyu's looming opponent Jermell Charlo, to unify a division in the 18-year four-belt era.

Kambosos claimed he wanted the rematch with Haney after the bout.

While the American said it was definitely on the cards, he would weigh-up his options first before making a decision.

American boxing fans furious over Aussie anthem act

While the fight was somewhat underwhelming, there were unsavoury scenes before the bout when a number of fans in attendance loudly booed the American national anthem.

Haney was also booed by Aussie fans when he made his walk to the ring, leaving American TV viewers fuming.

US sports writer Dan Clark tweeted: "Complete miss-match of a fight. George Kambosos looks slow, uninspired, unfit, and in a completely different class to the wonderful Devin Haney."

"Shame on the Australian crowd for the 'boos' during the US national anthem earlier too. Now, complete silence."

Others described those booing as 'embarrassing' and 'shameful'.
