'Savage' Canelo Alvarez act with translator has boxing world in awe

Canelo Alvarez achieved boxing glory on the weekend after he defeated Caleb Plant in a unification fight and following the bout he shared a hilarious moment with his translator in as show of respect to his rival.

The Mexican became just the sixth man to unify a division after a TKO victory over Plant in the 11th round of their super middleweight championship fight.

Canelo and Plant appeared to share bad blood leading into the fight after a nasty incident at a press conference in September.

Plant appeared to get under Canelo's skin after calling him a motherf***er, which resulted in the Mexican pushing him and eventually leaving a mark under his right eye.

While fight week saw the pair remain calm in each the presence of one another, tension in Las Vegas was palpable.

Canelo showed why he is the undisputed pound-for-pound king and finished a brave Plant in the 11th round.

The duo showed their sportsmanship after the fight as they embraced in the ring and spoke about their admiration for one another.

When asked after the fight what was said, Canelo was full of praise.

"We are men at the end, he wanted to still fight me, he wanted to still continue," Canelo said in Spanish, which was translated.

"I told him there was no shame, we had a great fight today."

However, Canelo quickly swung around to his translator standing to his right and repeated 'And then?" as he urged him to finish what he said.

After a pause and checking with Canelo, the translator finished off his words.

"Ok, he did say that he was sorry about the motherf***ing incident that happened, and he didn't mean it that way."

The crowd erupted into cheers after hearing about the respect the two boxers showed after the fight.

However, fans were quick to have a laugh over Canelo's reaction to the translator.

A close fought bout saw Plant staying on the outside and use his jab to score.

While the judges had a close fight heading into the middle rounds, Canelo appeared to pull away in the on the scorecards as his heavier body shots found their target.

And in the 11th round, a ferocious left hook followed by a devastating uppercut sent Plant crashing to the floor.

The American got to his feet, but Canelo charged in and set Plant to the mat again as the referee waved it off.

Canelo became the first Mexican-born fighter to unify a division in the four belt era.

The only fighters to have achieved this before the weekend were Oleksandr Usyk at cruiserweight, Bernard Hopkins and Jermain Taylor at middleweight, and Terence Crawford and Josh Taylor at super lightweight.
