Twist after man’s body dumped in creek

Two men have been arrested after a man’s body was found stuffed inside a large metal cabinet dumped in a creek.

The 22-year-old man’s body was found by specialist police in Warrell Creek at Macksville on the NSW mid north coast on May 12.

Police had become aware of the young man’s disappearance while investigating alleged drug supply in the Caringbah area.

Following an investigation, homicide police arrested a 22-year-old man at a Peakhurst property last week.

The man has since charged him with murder.

NSW Police Homicide Squad commander Virginia Gorman could not confirm whether the man was known to the victim.

“Police will allege the motivation (for the murder) does relate to drugs,” Ms Gorman said.

“I understand that the family are absolutely devastated.

“For a man so young to die in circumstances like that is just awful.”

Ms Gorman said it was “horrifying” that the man was dumped in the creek by people who hoped he would “just disappear”.

The 22-year-old man was refused bail and will re-appear at Downing Centre Local Court on August 17.

Another man, 33, was arrested on Wednesday after police travelled to Brisbane and executed a number of search warrants.

Ms Gorman said that police will allege the man had travelled to Sydney from Queensland to dispose of the body.

“Police will allege the 22-year-old male called in the 33-year-old male from QLD to assist,” she said.

“It took a couple days for him to arrive. Once he came to Sydney, the missing person was put into a metal locker and taken away.”

Ms Gorman said the 22-year-old man had called on someone he could “rely on to come and do the job”.

“The 33-year-old was brought in as a cleaner,” she said.

“He is known to QLD Police, but I cannot comment on that any further.”

Ms Gorman confirmed the 33-year-old was currently before a Queensland court.

She could not say how long proceedings would take despite an application having been made for his extradition.

Investigations continue.
