Black Caviar's little brother sells for record price

A new record has been set today, with the half-brother of super mare Black Caviar fetching a cool $5 million at auction.

Black Caviar's little brother, was on the auction block today as part of the Newmarket sales and smashed the southern hemisphere record of $3 million paid for a yearling.

Some experts predicted the young colt's price to skyrocket into the $4 million range at the Inglis Yearling Sales complex at Newmarket, but the end result easily surpassed that mark.

The un-named horse is the product of Redoute's Choice and Helsinge, with Helsinge producing Black Caviar and another cracking horse in All Too Hard.

There was interest from all over the world for the colt, including from Asia and Europe.

"It was the biggest interest we have seen generally, either domestic or international, in a yearling," Inglis managing director Mark Webster said.
