Bills' Cole Beasley on return to Dallas: 'I'm just glad I'm on this side'
Cole Beasley returned to AT&T Stadium in Dallas on Thursday for the first time since he signed a four-year, $29 million contract with the Buffalo Bills. He’d spent seven seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, and he made a huge impact in his first game back at his old stomping ground.
In the Bills’ 26-15 win over the Cowboys, Beasley had his best game of the entire season. He had a season-high 110 yards receiving on six catches, and caught a second quarter touchdown that tied the game 7-7 and started the Bills on their march toward a win.
After the game, Beasley heaped praise on his new team, making it clear that he takes joy in the Bills’ successes and not the Cowboys’ woes. Via ESPN:
"I'm just glad I'm in a place coaches believe in me, teammates believe in me and they give me opportunities to do what I do. I was telling everybody before the game, I'm just glad I'm on this side while we're here.
“It's been a great experience, and everybody else played their butts off and got win No. 9. That's the most important thing, so I'm just glad to take another step forward."
Returning to Dallas definitely agreed with him, but Beasley’s been having a great season outside of this one-game homecoming. Through 12 games, he’s on pace to surpass most of his career-best totals. If he stays as productive as he’s been throughout the season, he’s on pace for 847 yards on 73 catches and 108 targets, and seven touchdowns. All of those would be career-highs for Beasley.
The Bills are now 9-3, second in the AFC East. They beat a Cowboys team that was desperate for a win, and beat them decisively. They look like a confident, legitimate contender, but for Beasley it’s about so much more than what happens on the field. Via ESPN:
"Man, there's a bond here that I don't think can happen in many places, just with the way it's kind of set up. I can't explain everything, but we're always together. It's a different kind of brotherhood here, and we're always together. Our kids are together, the coaches, the players — everything.
"It's really a unique and awesome thing that we have here in Buffalo, and I know my family has loved every bit of it. That's part of why I said I'd play here until the wheels fall off."
