Ben Hunt in massive Broncos development as Corey Parker's wife questions family reasoning

The NRL veteran is reportedly set for a key meeting with his former club.

Ben Hunt is reportedly set to meet with Brisbane Broncos officials in coming days, but the NRL veteran is said to be keen to stay in Sydney where his young family are settled. Hunt is searching for a new NRL club after being released from the final year of his contract with the Dragons.

The Broncos and Dolphins have both expressed interest in bringing him home to Queensland, where he and wife Bridget are both originally from. But reports emerged earlier this week that the halfback's preference is to remain in Sydney, putting the Roosters and Bulldogs in the box seat.

Hunt is said to be keen to stay in Sydney and not uproot his young family, with a move to Queensland meaning his two sons (aged 7 and 5) would have to change schools and make new friends. But Margaux Parker - the wife of Broncos legend Corey - has questioned whether that's actually important considering how young they are.

Speaking on her Triple M radio show in Brisbane this week, Margaux suggested Hunt might be putting too much importance on his desire to keep his family settled. It must be said that Margaux is a massive Broncos fan and was speaking rather tongue-in-cheek.

But she said: "He's only got one kid in [primary] school and it's like kindy. It doesn't even matter yet." The comment was meant to be a joke, but raised a fairly valid argument about whether too much emphasis is placed on schooling - especially when kids are so young.

Former Wallabies player Greg Martin said: "Can everyone get over school. It's not that important up until a certain point. Just be a good person." While Margaux added: "It doesn't really matter."

Margaux has four kids with husband Corey, who played 347 games for the Broncos throughout an illustrious NRL career. She clearly has plenty of experience when it comes to raising kids, and what's the best thing for them. Her comments only seemed to be in jest, but debate has been raging for years about whether kids and teenagers have too much pressure to perform at school, and how much their schooling will actually affect the rest of their lives.

Hunt has always expressed a desire to move back to Queensland with his family at some stage, and he and Bridget recently bought a property near Byron Bay - close to the NSW-Queensland border. Whether or not he wants to return to the Broncos remains to be seen, after he spent seven seasons there at the start of his career.

Speaking earlier this month he said: "Brisbane will always have a soft spot for me. I have been involved in the club since I was 12. They put a lot of work into me, and if I had the opportunity to go finish there it would be pretty special. But I've got to see if that can all work."

The Broncos are keen to bring Hunt back, especially with Ezra Mam facing a lengthy suspension. But the Roosters are seen as the favourites to land the 34-year-old if he decides he wants to remain in Sydney.

"He will be a Rooster for sure," former NRL player Joel Caine said on SEN radio on Tuesday. "They just have to find their man and this will be their man...If he's meeting the Roosters, he's going to the Roosters."
