Barry Hall sacked by Triple M for offensive comment
Former Sydney Swans captain Barry Hall has been sacked on the spot by Triple M radio for making an offensive comment on air.
The AFL legend was ending a pre-game panel discussion when he made a repulsive comment relating to former St. Kilda player Leigh Montagna’s wife.
Hall was only in the broadcast team as a fill-in for Chris Judd for Triple M’s coverage of Western Bulldogs-Geelong from Etihad Stadium.
Triple M was quick to release a statement regarding the matter.
“Tonight on Triple M Football there were unacceptable and inappropriate comments made by a member of the commentary team,” Triple M’s head of content Mike Fitzpatrick said in the statement.
“The commentator was removed immediately from the broadcast and an apology was issued on air afterwards.
“Immediate action was taken with the termination of employment for one team member”
Unsurprisingly, social media immediately lit up with some listeners sharing their outrage over the comments, while other footy fans questioned what the former AFL star had said.
@triplemfooty been a listener for 15 years. That comment by Barry Hall was the most outrageously offensive thing I've heard in a pre-game in a long time. Shameful. Embarrassing. Wrong.

Triple M have sacked Barry Hall. Was filling in on tonight’s match when he made an inappropriate comment in a pre-match chat. Was told not to finish his shift and now has been sacked by the station.

Being new to working in radio I am always learning. Tonight Barry Hall showed me where the line is …. and it’s about a thousand miles from where Barry was tonight. 😬🤦♂️.

Whatever Barry Hall said must have been extreme to get the sack on the spot from @triplemfooty

Hall played 289 AFL games during his career, with 162 of those for the Swans where he earned a name for himself.
During his career Hall kicked 746 goals, was awarded All Australian honours on three occasions and was inducted into the Sydney Swans Hall of Fame in 2014.
