'Visual pollution': Viewers react to bizarre Australian Open outfit

Grigor Dimitrov has taken Serena Williams’ Australian Open fashion statement and raised it exponentially.

The Bulgarian began his Melbourne Open campaign with a come-from-behind win against Juan Ignacio Londero on the opening day in Melbourne.

However, it was the bizarre pre-match tracksuit the 28-year-old was wearing that took the eye before the match got underway.

Dimitrov came out on court with a full body tracksuit that looked more like a set of winter pyjamas than traditional sports wear.

The jacket and pant combo had matching designs of navy blue body with yellow dots speckled all over, making him look like a walking mini solar system.

While the ensemble didn't quite generate the same degree of buzz that Williams' latest outfit did on social media, Dimitrov's tracksuit nevertheless led to some funny commentary from viewers.

With play was suspended on all outside courts because of heavy rain, Dimitrov took advantage of being undercover to seal his spot in the second round.

Dimitrov leaving his mark Down Under

After surrendering the opening set, the 18th seed found his groove to send Argentine Londero packing, 4-6 6-2 6-0 6-4.

The Bulgarian has been making a splash in Australia, with a funny encounter with former partner Maria Sharapova creating headlines last week.

The tennis stars were in a relationship between 2013 and 2015, but things didn’t work out.

However, they proved that they're still good friends with a nice bit of banter during one of Dimitrov's matches at the Kooyong Classic.

Sharapova joined the SBS commentary team while Dimitrov was on court, and Dimitrov spotted her in the box.

“He keeps looking over here, can you tell him to stop looking?” Sharapova said in jest.

Dimitrov then walked over to the box and took a pair of headphones so he could hear what was being said.

“What about this yellow thing going on?” Sharapova asked Dimitrov about his bright shorts, before saying “not really” when he asked if she liked them.

“I thought you liked yellow on me but that’s okay,” Dimitrov replied.

“People change, I get it.”
