Australian Cam Myers continues record-breaking streak
Australian teenaged middle-distance sensation Cameron Myers has obliterated his own Under-20 world record and played a major role in the fastest men's short-track mile of alltime.
The 18-year-old finished third in the famed Wanamaker Mile in New York on Saturday (Sunday AEDT) behind American winner Yared Nuguse, who bettered the world record with a time of three minutes 46.63 seconds.
Myers flew home for third place in 3:47.48, taking nearly six seconds off his previous Under-20 global benchmark set just two weeks ago.
It was also the first time a teenager had broken 3:48 for the mile - either indoors or outdoors.

"I knew I had a big one in me. I was thinking 3:48 or 3:49 would be great, so I was really pleased when I crossed the line," said Myers, who overtook Frenchman Azeddine Habz in the shadow of the line.
"My coach told me I'm good enough to hang with anyone in the world for 1400 metres so I tried to do that and I managed to have a little bit left at the end.
"It was one of those race situations that played out perfectly.
"I got to conserve a lot of energy and at 200 to go, it felt like 400 to go, so it was a good time."
Myers has now bettered a world Under-20 or national record in each of the three races he has contested this year and has already locked in his spot in the 1500m for the track and field world championships in Tokyo in September.
His time also equalled Commonwealth 1500m champ Olli Hoare's Australian outdoor mile record set at the 2022 Oslo Diamond League meet.
Nuguse broke the previous short-track world record of 3:47.01 set nearly six years ago by Ethiopia's Yomif Kejelcha.
In other Australian action at the Millrose Games, Ky Robinson bettered the Australian short-track 3000m record set last week by Myers.
Robinson finished fourth in 7:30.38 in a race won by American dual Olympic bronze medallist Grant Fisher in a world record time of 7:22.91.
Olympic 1500m silver medallist Jessica Hull battled a cold but still managed to finish fourth in the women's 3000m in 8:30.91.
In the French city of Metz, rising sprint star Torrie Lewis made a successful start to her 2025 campaign with victory in the 200m in 22.65 - one hundredth of a second outside Melinda Gainsford-Taylor's Australian short-track record set way back in 1995.
