Aussie tennis in shock over death of Todd Reid, aged 34

Australian tennis has been rocked by the death of former teenage prodigy Todd Reid.

Tennis Australia have confirmed that Reid died on Tuesday, with no suspicious circumstances involved.

Reid was touted for big things in Australian tennis and was awarded a scholarship with the Nick Bollettieri academy at age 13.

He won the Wimbledon junior title in 2002, up against the likes of future stars Marcos Baghdatis, Tomas Berdych and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

However in 2005 he quit the full-time ATP tour due to a string of injuries.

At the 2004 Australian Open he famously won a five-set epic against Sargis Sargsian at the age of 19.

In oppressive heat, Reid suffered through vomiting and cramps before advancing to the third round, his best result at a grand slam tournament.

In 2004 he was also picked in Australia’s Davis Cup squad, playing in a reverse singles rubber.

He finished his pro career with an 87–43 record in singles, and 97–40 in doubles.

He reached World No. 2 in the junior singles world rankings in 2002.
