Aussie star suffers horrific injuries in terrifying Motocross crash
Aussie motocross racer Chad Reed after suffering multiple serious injuries in a crash during a race on the weekend.
Reed, who celebrated his 37th birthday with his family just a week ago, was brought down on the first lap in Seattle.
He crashed on a jump section, taking two rivals down with him, but the significant injuries occurred when more bikes came through.
Kyle Chisholm had nowhere to go and landed his front wheel on Reed, who called for assistance immediately after he was unable to sit up.
His horrific injuries make for painful reading: eight broken ribs, a broken scapula and a collapsed lung.
“Up and outta bed without passing out,” Reed wrote on Instagram.
“Tried checking myself outta (hospital) yesterday but fainted going from bed to wheelchair.”
Incredibly, the two-time Supercross champion has already changed his mind on letting the injuries end his campaign.
He already has his eyes on a return in the first weekend of May at the season finale in Las Vegas for what would be his 250th start in the competition.
“I love having a purpose and a goal,” he said.
“Though it seems impossible right now I’m setting a goal of racing Vegas because I know I’ll be a better human for it.”

Reed already defied his doctors orders not to hop on a plane for 48 hours: “I waited 30.”
“Chad is getting on a plane today and he is f***ing miserable,” Chad’s wife Ellie wrote.
“But he got up out (of) that bed and got the drugs out (of) his system. He will tackle this head on.”
Ellie and their three kids were at home when the crash occurred, linking up on Tuesday night local time.

Justin Brayton, one of the riders who was brought down by Reed in the first part of the crash, reportedly suffered torn ligaments in his knee.
Reed sat seventh in the championship heading into Seattle.
