Ange Postecoglou explains Richarlison substitution after Tottenham boos
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has revealed why he substituted striker Richarlison during Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Leicester.
Spurs lost their fourth consecutive Premier League game on Sunday to pile further pressure on Postecoglou.
Richarlison had given the hosts the lead in the first-half with a stooping header but quick-fire goals from Jamie Vardy and Bilal El Khannouss after the break condemned Postecoglou’s side to another miserable defeat.
Brazil forward Richarlison has only recently returned from injury and the decision to replace him with Mikey Moore less than 10 minutes into the second half was met with boos from sections of the home support.
Asked why he took Richarlison off when needing a goal, Postecoglou said: “Richarlison was feeling his groin, he had to come off, I should have took him off at half-time and he wasn't running out.”
Postecoglou also admitted midfielder Pape Sarr should not have played, having missed Thursday’s win over Hoffenheim with a knock.
“Pape Sarr shouldn't have played today but he wanted to help,” he added.
Spurs are back in action on Thursday night when they host Elfsborg in their final game of the Europa League league stage.
