Andrew Voss lashes out at Football Australia board member amid storm around Matildas comment
Voss doubled down on his claims the Matildas are no longer must-watch TV.
A fired-up Andrew Voss has hit back at a Football Australia board member who labelled him a "knucklehead" for suggesting the Matildas are not "must-watch viewing at the moment". FA director Joseph Carrozzi AM took aim at Voss after the broadcaster told his 'Vossy and Brandy' audience on SEN radio he believed interest in the Tillies had dropped off since last year's World Cup.
Voss' comments came off the back of the side's two defeats to Brazil in friendly internationals. Many in the football community criticised his take, pointing out the matches had attracted sellout crowds and sizeable television audiences.
Carrozzi went the hardest, posting on social media: "What a bunch of knuckleheads. Back-to-back losses against Brazil. One of the greatest nations of (football) in the world - who travel to Aust to play here because they respect the Matildas and these two dribble about a sport they know nothing about. #football #brandy&vossyWho?"
Voss responded: "Poor Joseph. Stay outraged and abusive. And from a bloke with AM in his title. What a joke." A more conciliatory Carrozzi posted back: "We both need to smarten up. Maybe. But to put down a most popular team is not good form."
Poor Joseph. Stay outraged and abusive. And from a bloke with AM in his title. What a joke.

Andrew Voss' explosive rant at Football Australia board member
Voss invited the FA board member to listen to Thursday morning's show where he proceeded to give him both barrels. "Why would he feel he has to go the abuse angle? Why would he feel that, Joseph?" Voss began.
"It was an observation (about the Matildas) and I stand by it. Okay, the World Cup…I'm stopping everything to watch the Matildas. They captured the imagination. This whole series – four games in nine days (Matildas against Brazil and Chinese Taipei) – I will not have watched a minute live.
"It doesn’t mean I'm not interested; I'm just saying they're not on my radar of live sport at the moment. Do you want your radio hosts to be cheerleaders? I love rugby league but it doesn't mean I don't give it a whack. Why do football fans get so prickly?"
Addressing Carrozzi's second tweet, Voss continued: "I don’t need to smart up at all, Joseph, you pillock. I did nothing wrong. What planet are you on, Joseph?
"If you're an example of the Football Australia board, football in this country has bugger all chance of achieving its true potential. A board member? Haven't you got better things to do? It's only the laws of radio that stop me from saying you can go and get…"
After losing both matches to Brazil, the Matildas responded with a 3-1 win over Chinese Taipei in Melbourne on Wednesday night. The two-game friendly series wraps up in Geelong on Saturday night.
