Ambidextrous spinner achieves remarkable career first

A 20-year-old spinner from Sri Lanka who bowls with both arms has achieved a big career milestone.

Sri Lanka have included the ambidextrous bowler in their 15-member squad for the one-off Twenty20 match against England.

Kamindu Mendis, who has captained Sri Lanka at Under-19 level, was brought into the squad led by Thisara Perera for Saturday’s match at Premadasa International Stadium in Colombo.

It will be Mendis’ first cap at senior international level if he’s picked in the XI.

Though his bowling talents have made international headlines, it’s actually his batting that is his main strength.

He made 61 off 72 balls in a warm-up match against England before the current ODI squad.
