Allan Langer in brutal new development at Broncos after huge call from Michael Maguire
Langer has been removed as the Broncos on-field trainer but Maguire insists he will find a spot at Brisbane for him.
Broncos coach Michael Maguire has confirmed Allan Langer will not continue in his coaching role in 2025 but insists he has not been sacked and the club are working to find him another role. It means Langer's days as an on-field trainer are over as Maguire finalised his coaching team for next season.
Club legend Langer was reportedly rocked and angered at former coach and good friend Kevin Walters' dismissal, having won multiple premierships alongside his former teammate. Rated the greatest Bronco to ever play the game by foundation coach Wayne Bennett, Langer is Brisbane's favourite son and he has worked in an array of roles at Red Hill over the past two decades.
Such is the admiration for Langer, Broncos captain Adam Reynolds even admitted one of the main reasons he joined the Broncos from Souths was to learn from Langer. And while the Brisbane icon won't continue as a Broncos assistant and on-field trainer - like he was under Walters - next season, Maguire says he will work with 'Alfie' to find him another job at Red Hill.
“Alf will be in the organisation,” Maguire told The Courier Mail. "I haven’t really had a chance to see him properly yet, but I have spoken to Alf over the phone and he’s a great man. I’ve been able to spend some time with him over the years. Now that I’m moving up, I want to sit down with Alf and see how best it all fits in together.
"He’s obviously one of the greats of the club and such a popular figure in the game. I think everyone enjoys Alf, but it’s just best how we put our program together. I’m looking forward to sitting down with him over the next couple of weeks to talk about where he fits in. Alf can play so many different parts within the Broncos organisation."

Michael Maguire retains Kevin Walters' other appointments
Despite Langer no longer being assistant coach, Maguire has confirmed the other coaching appointments made by his predecessor will remain as he looks to stabilise the club in what is a turbulent time. The new coach announced last week that Trent Barrett and Ben Te'o would remain in the role they were hired to do by Walters.
Walters appointed Barrett and Te'o to replace Super League-bound John Cartwright and Lee Briers ahead of the 2025 season. And the Broncos have confirmed their appointments will stand under new coach Maguire.
As well as confirming Te'o and Barrett, Maguire has added his own personal touch to the coaching team, hiring high-performance expert Troy Thomson - who worked with the Rabbitohs from 2011-16. Matt Ballin will also remain in his role, however, former Queensland Origin player Darius Boyd won't be at Red Hill next season after he decided to leave his post at the end of the 2024 campaign.
