'Alive and kicking': Nathan McCullum rubbishes death hoax

Former New Zealand allrounder Nathan McCullum was forced to rubbish a bizarre rumour that he had died after it spread on social media.

A number of posts falsely suggested McCullum, the older brother of former Black Caps skipper Brendon, had passed away.

The 38-year-old’s Wikipedia page was also edited to suggest McCullum had died, but the man himself proved otherwise.

He attached one of the hoax posts and a selfie with teammates after their cricket game to a tweet.

“I am alive and kicking more than ever before,” wrote McCullum, who played 84 one-day internationals and 63 Twenty20s for his country between 2007 and 2016.

“Not sure where this news has come from but this is fake. Love you all.”

Brendon McCullum vowed to track down the person who falsely claimed his brother had died.

The reports had reached Brendon as he was flying back to New Zealand after playing in the T10 League in the United Arab Emirates.

“Tonight someone decided via social media to release that my brother passed away,” Brendon McCullum wrote.

“I’m on a flight back to New Zealand and my heart broke! None of it is true! Whoever put this out there, I’ll find you! Somewhere, somehow.”
