McKinnon’s promising rugby league career was cut short when he suffered a devastating spinal cord injury playing for the Newcastle Knights in 2014.

He was diagnosed a quadriplegic and proposed to Teigan from his hospital bed just days after the devastating accident.

The wonderful baby news comes on the couple’s first wedding anniversary.

They recently opened up about the incredible moment Alex stood from his wheelchair at their wedding.

“It took 3 years of EVERYTHING I’ve got in me to achieve this moment of standing with my beautiful wife on our wedding day, dreams do come true,” McKinnon posted on Instagram alongside a photo of the magical moment, published exclusively by New Idea magazine.

“I couldn’t believe Alex stood for all that time,” Teigan told New Idea.

“It was lovely to be able to look him in the eye, rather than looking down at him in his wheelchair.

“It just made the ceremony that much more intimate. We started crying every time we caught each other’s eye. It was beautiful.”
