AFL legend and teenage son in 'baseball bat' incident

A former champion AFL player has allegedly been involved in an altercation with his teenage son involving a baseball bat.

Police have confirmed that they were called to an incident at the former player's house on Monday night. The player can't be named for legal reasons.

Police spokeswoman Acting Sergeant Julie-Anne Newman said she could not comment further because the matter is before the courts.

Melbourne radio host Neil Mitchell said the former player involved is a "huge name" in the AFL community.

"He is an AFL legend, much admired, much loved, very high profile," Mitchell said on 3AW.

"I know this man reasonably well. I have respected him over the years and if he's listening I'd urge him to release a statement to get it out there in the interests of everybody, including his friends.

"His name is all around town. The best thing to do would be to issue a simple written statement on the matter."
