How Geelong's intimidation tactics backfired spectacularly

Video has emerged of five Cats players targeting Collingwood's American import Mason Cox before a ball was even bounced on Saturday.

Vision from behind the goals revealed by On The Couch on Fox Footy shows five Geelong players, led by veteran Andrew Mackie, approaching Cox for some special treatment prior to first bounce at the MCG.

The questionable tactic backfired as Collingwood kicked seven goals to none in the opening term on their way to a 24-point victory.

"It's one thing to go out and do this and put on this big bold brave in your face front, it's another to back it up when the ball is bounced. They didn't do that," Jason Dunstall said after watching the vision.

Cox kicked two goals from nine disposals and three marks against experienced Cat Harry Taylor, his second major sealing the win for the Pies.

Cox's meteoric rise has seen former gun full forward Travis Cloke stuck in the VFL, with little hope of getting back to top footy.

"Unless you've got a specific role for him to fill, I'm not sure he's going to have that much currency in the market," Dunstall said.
