Goodes knocks back Essendon approach: report

Retired Sydney Swans champion Adam Goodes has reportedly knocked back an offer from Essendon to join the embattled club as a top-up player.

According to Fairfax, the Bombers approached Goodes' management about him joining the club, but he wasn't interested in coming out of retirement.

Essendon are on the look-out for veteran players with AFL experience and have already signed seven out of their allowed 10 additional players for 2016.

Goodes will reportedly only ever represent the Swans if he chooses to play on.

The 36-year-old has no official involvement in football, working with his Go Foundation and another Indigenous charity Supply Nation. He's also an ambassador for David Jones, Toyota and Lend Lease.

He walked away from the game at the end of the 2015 season after the booing controversy plagued his final year of footy.

Essendon have so far recruited James Kelly, Mathew Stokes, Ryan Crowley, Mark Jamar, Jonathan Simpkin, James Polkinghorne and Matt Dea after the majority of their roster was decimated by doping bans.
