A tipster's guide to round 4 of the AFL

Round 4 is proving to be the toughest yet for tipsters. Every match could go either way.

We celebrate Anzac Day with a traditional Essendon v Collingwood match (which as we know has always been fierce competition).

Here are our tips for round 4 of the AFL:

Richmond v Melbourne

Another week, another easy kill for the Tigers, who might be a little flakey but will still be more than a match for the Dees, who are struggling to string together four consistent quarters.

St Kilda v Carlton

It’ll be a hard sell getting Kiwi fans along to the Anzac Day opener, where the two teams’ total score could potentially be bigger than the crowd.

While both teams have been disappointing so far this season, expect Carlton to channel last week’s second-half form against Essendon and overcome the loss of Chris Judd to record its first win of the year.

Essendon v Collingwood

The best way to tip an Anzac Day winner is usually to throw out the form guide, but it’s hard to go past the Bombers as first win favourites, given their ominous start to the 2015 season.

GWS v Gold Coast

No Ablett, no wins and a list that looks paper thin despite big predictions for 2015. The signs aren’t good for Gold Coast, who’ll come up short against a GWS team that’ll have a home track advantage and three impressive performances already under its belt. The Giants in a close one.

Port Adelaide v Hawthorn

In the first of two Saturday night crackers, two potential top four sides have the chance to land an early mental blow in the race for the 2015 flag.

The Power have taken a licking at home once already this season, so expect the Hawks to make it a double dose and deliver the goods as $1.60 favourites.

Fremantle v Sydney

Unlike last week, the Dockers will need more than one scintillating quarter of football if they’re going to beat the Swans. Coach Ross Lyon will have the Dockers cherry ripe for this one, and they’re a good bet at $1.62.

Brisbane v West Coast

West Coast was embarrassed in the first quarter last week but clawed back some respectability late in the game, and they’re now facing a team that hasn’t come within 13 goals of an opponent in the last two weeks. The Eagles at the -17.5 line look the goods.

Geelong v North Melbourne

North tipped to win. Yes, you are reading correctly. Geelong is a $2.35 underdog at home against North Melbourne.

Already undermanned, the Cats will be without Jimmy Bartel and most likely Tom Lonergan against a confident Kangaroos outfit that flogged Brisbane on Sunday. Flip a coin for this one, but we’re taking North Melbourne.

Western Bulldogs v Adelaide

The tests just keep on coming for the Bulldogs as they face an Adelaide side that sits comfortably perched atop the AFL ladder. But don’t discount the Dogs at home, and if Marcus Bontempelli returns they’re every chance of saluting at odds of $3.75.
