AFL star's touching gesture for sick fan
Mason Cox is a dominating force on the AFL field, but he’s shown his softer side with a touching gesture for a young sick fan.
The Collingwood forward reached out to Twitter user Greg Camilleri, who had tweeted a photo of his son Connor in hospital, making a promise that he would stop by and visit the young Magpies fan.
This kid has gone thru a heap over the past 2 days. Its a slow road 2 recovery but he will get there.@CollingwoodFC any chance of a shoutout coz i know it will really lift his spirits. Yesterday even in real pain he listened 2 the game & was dissecting every aspect of it#gopies pic.twitter.com/ATYxYEsvJP

“Too busy to give back to supporters!? No such thing!” Cox tweeted.
“Are ya’ll in Melbourne? And what’s on tomorrow at 5pm? I’ll come stop in and say hi mate.”
Collingwood Football Club and Collingwood AFLW player Stephanie Chiocci also jumped on board to wish Connor a speedy recovery.
How cute, Greg. We absolutely have time to worry about him though.
Connor, from what we've heard, you're an absolute trooper. Everyone at the club is thinking about you, and hoping you show your strength in recovery. We're all proud of you. Go Pies! 💪 #FOREVER

Hi Connor,
I heard that Mason is going to visit you tonight..how amazing! Wait ‘til you see how tall he is!
I hope you’re feeling better soon and that you can cheer us on this weekend against the Kangas; it’s going to be a HUGE game!
Take care buddy, GO PIES 👊🏽 #FOREVER #gopies— Stephanie Chiocci (@Steph_Chiocci) July 17, 2018
Greg Camilleri responded on behalf of his son.
“Connor said thank you very much,” Mr. Camilleri tweeted.
“He said if he is out by Saturday he will be there 2 cheer the boys on.”
Collingwood were unable to continue their unbeaten streak last weekend, eventually going down to the West Coast Eagles.
Buckley said too many of his players lowered their colours in the 35-point loss.
“Then I suppose when the clouds started appearing for us and the sun started shining for them, then they were able to hit the scoreboard when we weren’t,” Buckley said.
“It was a tale of two halves, really.
“It’s the old maxim – when you lose more positions than you win, it’s pretty hard to win the game.”
It was in stark contrast to a week ago, when Buckley praised Collingwood for grinding out a win over Essendon.
This time Buckley said they were ground down by the Eagles.
It did not help losing key forward Mason Cox as a late withdrawal with hamstring tightness.
The Pies will be looking to bounce back this weekend against North Melbourne at the MCG.
