Collingwood premiership winner Jordan De Goey has shared a beautiful image of his grandmother in the grand final dressing room after revealing the sad news she has died. Collingwood fans were in awe of the beautiful moment after the AFL grand final when De Goey's grandmother - Elisabeth - visited the dressing room and the two were pictured sharing a special moment with each other.

Elisabeth visited the AFL grand final knowing it would probably be her last game seeing De Goey play due to her battle with cancer. The 27-year-old put his winning medal around her neck and she held the trophy in beautiful scenes for the family.

And De Goey posted a special tribute to his grandmother after the heartbreaking news. "I'll cherish this moment forever. RIP Oma," he wrote, accompanying the post with a picture of the two in the MCG dressing room.

De Goey had spoken about what it meant to have his family at the AFL grand final and said having them watch on was the highlight of his life. “Unfortunately, she has terminal cancer, so this will be the last game for her,” he said after the grand final. “That means the world to me to have her here.”

Jordan De Goey revels in AFL grand final win

There were reports De Goey was set to leave Collingwood after a rollercoaster few years leading into 2023. However, the 23-year-old stayed and was rewarded with a grand final appearance. De Goey produced one of the best performances of his career as the Magpies scored a 58-57 win over the Giants at the MCG, racking up 34 disposals and 13 clearances.

Despite de Goey's extraordinary performance against GWS, he was actually left stranded on the bench in the frenetic final stages of the game. "It was actually a pretty good situation to be in - I didn't have to do much. It was everyone else's turn to get the job done," he said of the high-stress moment.

"Obviously Billy had that stoppage and had a really good clearance. In terms of being able to relax, it was probably the best part of the game." At the end of last season, De Goey had the chance to pursue free agency and was linked with a move to St Kilda. Instead, the dynamic utility signed a five-year deal with the Pies and hasn't looked back.
