'Deeply saddened': Collingwood rocked by tragic death of young fan

The AFL community is in grief after young Collingwood fan Kyron McGuire Jnr died after his battle with a rare brain cancer.

McGuire Jnr was a huge fan of Collingwood and last season an emotional Adam Treloar dedicated his team’s victory to the young boy battling brain cancer.

McGuire ran out alongside his favourite player, Treloar, and the rest of the Collingwood team and watched the Pies roar to victory over Port Adelaide.

His family took to Facebook to announce the tragic news.

“Our family are deeply saddened to inform you that our baby boy gained his angel wings last night, at 10:30pm,” his family wrote.

“Sad, hurt and heart broken is an understatement to explain how we are feeling right now, but we do find comfort in knowing our baby is free of pain and suffering.

“We wish it wasn’t this way and our baby didn’t have to go, but God needed our big boy more than we needed him.

“Ky touched the heart of many people during his battle and we want to thank everyone for their prayers and support during Kyron’s fight against DIPG.”

‘Little legend’: Collingwood send best wishes

Collingwood also reacted to the news with deep sorrow.

“We're deeply saddened to hear Kyron McGuire Jnr lost his battle to a rare brain cancer on Monday. We were fortunate enough to welcome Kyron and his family to the club in 2019,” Collingwood wrote on Twitter.

“His bravery inspired many and we're truly grateful to have met this little legend. Rest easy buddy.”

The AFL community sent their best wishes to the McGuire family after the devastating news.
